Okay, we've found a downside to our neighborhood

As I've said several times to [livejournal.com profile] tiamat360 tonight, I cannot believe how few trick-or-treaters we got! Particularly after all the effort we spent putting fake cobwebs up on our trees, installing blacklights next to our door, hanging up a giant fake spider and even mounting a red sheet behind our window, illuminated from below from a lamp -- what I'm saying is that our house looks kind of awesome -- we only got five, maybe six groups all night long! Even after that one kid tried to literally grab an entire handful from the bowl, we now have way too much candy left over.

Seriously, we were so excited to finally be living somewhere trick-or-treating appropriate, but there was basically nobody! Sucks.

That sucks!

We got trick-or-treaters for the first time in our lives today! I was so excited, even though we didn't do the decorations...we just carved 3 pumpkins.

We still have way too much extra candy. I'm feeding our extra candy to my students....

Sad!

I'm guessing our neighborhood has too few kids and is too spread out for trick-or-treating -- we only got two eighth-graders with accompanying parents. (Also, they brought chips.) So now we have lots of candy (which we admittedly bought for the housewarming party, but still) and chips.

No one ever, ever, ever rings our doorbell, so we put out a bowl of candy next to the pumpkins on the stair wall. It all went except for the candy corn, which apparently nobody likes, but they were ninja trick-or-treaters as for various reasons I was outside about every five minutes for large portions of the evening and saw nobody.

Just about everyone I know online claims no trick-or-treaters this year. I'm not sure why as a Saturday Halloween seems to me as though it should be perfect for it.

Your house sounds really awesome.

We put out candy, which gradually disappeared over the course of the evening, but I didn't see any trick-or-treaters. Actually, I'm not sure whether they did trick-or-treat on actual Halloween.

Next year?
