So I was telling Mattt and Annie about our "band," and I described it as a "band quote unquote," and all of a sudden it struck me that that would be a really cool name for a band: "Quote Unquote." It would be written down symbolically, like "". I like this much more than the previously suggested ideas, like "Nth Degree," "Saran Wrap," and "Toast."
Just think of the possibilities for humor:
"The band, Quote Unquote, has written a new song."
"What, they didn't really write it?"
"No, they, Quote Unquote, wrote it themselves."
"What?"
. . . ad nauseam.
Part of the problem is that we're not exactly sure yet what our sound is going to be, since we're still in the very rudimentary stages. The rest of the problem is that Rae really wants Luke, our drummer, to suggest the name, so that we see some of his personality and he's put more of himself into the band. Which is cool, except that I fear actually getting the name out of him will be slightly less enjoyable than a root canal.
Speaking (sorta) of music, I need fresh stuff. I'm getting really bored with my current playlist. Rae lent me the Michelle Branch CD, but it's not as good as I had hoped it would be. Please, anyone at all who's reading this, just tell me what song to download. I will. Anything. Think, "hmm, Matt's life would be incomplete if he never hears Song X." And then tell me. I like everything except rap, hip hop and bubblegum pop.
Please. . . I have a lot of hours of AP Chem work to slog through ahead of me. . .

Fates Warning - The Ivory Gate of Dreams (22 minutes)
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray (12 movements, 53 minutes)
Dmitri Shostakovich - Violin Concerto #1 (5 movements)
Honorable mentions are:
Pain of Salvation - Inside Out
Dream Theater - Metroplis Part 1 - The Miracle and The Sleeper (part 2 is atrocious, avoid at all costs)
Edge of Sanity - Crimson (40 minutes)
Unfortunately, all of these are EXTREMELY difficult for the unindoctrinated to digest and I would rarely suggest these to the non music student.
Here's what I put on a comp for someone very special:
Vauxdvihl - The Weapon 2:21
the aforementioned Dream Theater - Metropolis 9:30
Madsword - Darkened Rooms 7
Mayadome - Able to Feel 8:50
Mayadome - Near Life Experience 7/7:51
The Quiet Room - A Different Scene 4:44
Evergrey - For Every Tear That Falls 4:14
Superior - Dreamtime 3:27
Superior - Tainted Silence 6:07
Fates Warning - Chasing Time 3:38
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest 7:29
Pain of Salvation - Spirit of the Land :40
Pain of Salvation - Inside 6:12
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons 23:06
Lemur Voice - When The Cradle Cries 7:43
Pain of Salvation - Plains of Dawn 7:23
Pain of Salvation - Leaving Entropia 2:31
Pain of Salvation - Inside Out 6:38/12:00
of those, I'd say the Superior, Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation's Leaving Entropia are the most "accessible" if you will.
I hope that helps.
Yay!

I was actually quite surprise by the wealth of classical I managed to find online. My other favorite violin concertos are the:
Sibelius
Bruch
Mendelsshon
Tchaikovsky (played by Leila Jesefowitz...it's still flawed but is the best recording available IMO)
Brahms
Meyer
Beethoven
Barber
There is also this piece by Antonin Bazzini called Le Ronde Les Lutins or The Dance of The Goblins. It phuqqing rules. It is perhaps my single favorite piece of violin music. I want to learn it but only know 1/9th of it so far.
To anyone else. . .
