I got the little program for LJ that lets you update from your desktop, instead of going to the site. I'm hoping the little icon will spur me to write more often. I need to be writing more often. I didn't manage to write any more of my play today, because of the new guitar.

And I was wrong earlier. There is something more fun than jumping around playing "I Love Rock & Roll," and that is playing a song that you wrote in your head a couple of months ago but never really played because it just didn't work on an acoustic.

It's been a long time since the world took a look at you,
Told you you could do whatever you wanted to,
Though I doubt that ever happened at all.
Standing up there on your golden pedestal,
Though part of me's screaming that it's all regrettable,
Sooner or later, all false gods must fall.

That's it. Just one chorus. I haven't had any inspiration yet regarding verses, although I have worked out the chords for the chorus, as well as a sweet little riff. Thoughts? I suppose I could always tab it out if anyone's curious.

Mom is beginning to force books about the College Essay down my throat. I mean, I know that I ought to get started now, that it will save me a lot of grief in the future, I understand all that, but. . . it's summer for crying out loud!

People suck. College admissions officers in particular.

This morning I was woken up at 9 when a telemarketer called. Since I am incapable of falling back to sleep once I have woken up, I used my morning to read Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. Very interesting. I had heard a LOT about it and how great it is. It was good. It is not up among my most favorite plays of all time, but it was clearly brilliant and funny. Perhaps I would enjoy it more if I saw it performed. Next on my list is Arcadia, which actually looks much more interesting to me. I asked to borrow it from Rae, and she threw in R&G and also Jumpers along with it.

Of course, first I have to read the stupid college essay books.

Glad you enjoyed Rozencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. I'm sure you'd enjoy it better performed. It seems like one of those kinds of plays.

So, I get the impression that you're getting ready to start college? Cool. Good luck with that. Once you get the boring stuff out of the way (like College Essays), college can be pretty fun.

I know that I'm really looking forward to it... where did you go?

Incidentally, the books about the essay aren't all that bad. Or at least, this one isn't. This author writes really well and is actually pretty funny. Despite my dark forebodings, this book in particular is quite entertaining and educational. I'm already getting ideas for what I want to write about, but I'm not sure that picking Douglas Adams as an author who has really inspired you would go over well with the admissions people. We'll have to see.
