Here is an intensely random thought that I just had:

Imagine a hypothetical universe.

In this universe, mosquitos don't bite people for food or nutrients, at least not in the general sense. They can successfully be born, grow up, produce offspring and die without ever once drawing blood.

In this universe, however, mosquitos still bite people.

Why? Because, in this universe, when a mosquito is about to die, if she has blood in her stomach, then the chemicals in that blood will act as anaesthetic against the pains of death. A mosquito who drinks blood dies peacefully, but a mosquito that doesn't dies in pain.

Now, remember, this is a hypothetical universe, where we can clearly tell that insects can feel pain. To us, it probably looks like the bug is spasming or something, with all their limbs and wings and such just going haywire and sending them all over the place. It's viscerally unpleasant to watch.

Okay, so we've got this hypothetical universe.

Question: in this hypothetical universe, would bug spray sell?
