So while Rae is having religious conversions triggered by her musical selections, I've found myself much more drawn to songs with weird and wonderful piano lines--draw from this what conclusions you will. In any case, I've been totally digging on Ben Folds lately (as an examination of entry titles will show), especially the stuff like "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" and "The Last Polka."
But there is a new champion for oddest song that has completely gotten under my skin, and it is the Dresden Dolls' "Girl Anachronism." I don't know what, but something about that whacked-out piano is just incredibly cool--it's almost like a song from a musical, but not quite. And the vocals--they're the kind I usually can't stand, a kind of nearly-toneless talk-singing, but somehow it fits together with the almost-un-musical instrumentation to create this gorgeous cacophony.
So, yeah. Listen and adore. Dev tells me that the singer's really cute in concert, too, so all the better.
Wow, that's three posts about music in a row. Any amateur psychoanalysts in the crowd?
