So let's see... I feel as though I've got an awful lot of work to do, but I can't think of any specific assignments. Perhaps I'm forgetting something, but perhaps my internal counter just hasn't gotten its Homework Quota for the week and it feels dissatisfied... is it possible that I might actually be facing a brief reprieve from my workload?

Our suite has been totally rearranged, and is now definitively the Coolest Damn Freshman Suite On Campus. Not that that's saying much, here, but still. Gordon, I am coming to realize, has (in addition to studiousness, friendliness, and hunk-ability), a really good design sense. What the hell is with this kid? He's like the perfect human specimen. Good thing he likes me.

Also, Stephen sings very loud and very out-of-key in the shower. To J-pop. Good god.

I mean, really loud. And really out of key. Painfully so.

I love my room. I have religion reading to do. My bed is made.

Also, monkeys.

arrrrrrrrrr.

So for Expos (i.e. Expository Writing) this week, we had to read an essay by Henri Bergson on the nature of existence, followed by excerpts from a novel by Proust on sudden recollections of memory. Apparently the "petit madelienes" passage is quite famous in literature, according to my professor. I didn't know this before, but it certainly deserves to be. I loved how perfectly Proust captured in words a universal human experience.

In any event, we broke up into smaller groups in class to discuss the reading, and my group ended up talking about how Proust mentions a deep azure blue color every time a rush of memory is trying to return. In response to this, Charlotte mentioned a game she played with her friends: "what color is your name?"

"Steve," for example, is blue. At least, I think so. Beth insisted that it was green, but she was wrong. Also, "John" is a yellowish brown color, but "Jonathan" is a woody orange-brown. "Alex" is red-orange. I mention this because I would be curious to hear what y'all think about this. Also, it's very difficult to color your own name, so I'd love to know what color "Matt" is. I know that "Lisa" is greenish-blue and "Scarlett" is, interestingly enough, a sort of deep red-purple.

As a corollarly, were you aware that you already think of odd numbers as warm colors, and even as cool? Try it, it's true. It just feels wrong for 3 to be blue. On the other hand, 10 is definitely green, 7 is deep orange, and 2 is a solid, primary blue.

Thoughts? Contributions?
