There is a Summer Mix! I know it's still a few hours early, but you would not believe how much[livejournal.com profile] tiamat360 has been bugging me about it since I mentioned it two days ago.

I'm actually pretty happy with this one... it's got a nice mix of rock, folk, and just general kick-backiness. Like many of my mixes, it's sort of weird, but I think I really hit a common mood here, much like with Sunshowers.

In any event:

Kick Back

1. Johnny Cash - "I've Been Everywhere"
2. Doobie Brothers - "China Grove"
3. Sugar Ray - "Falls Apart"
4. Flogging Molly - "Tomorrow Comes a Day Too Soon"
5. Dispatch - "Past the Falls"
6. Joe Satriani - "Summer Song"
7. Chris Isaak - "Only The Lonely"
8. Ani Difranco - "Both Hands"
9. The Cox Family - "I Am Weary (Let Me Rest)"
10. Paul Simon - "The Coast"
11. Statler Brothers - "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You"
12. Taj Mahal - "My Creole Belle"
13. Keb' Mo' - "Henry"
14. Jimmy Buffett - "I Will Play For Gumbo"
15. Sublime - "What I Got"
16. Tally Hall - "Banana Man"
17. Nine Days - "If I Am"
18. Train - "When I Look to the Sky"
19. Moxy Früvous - "River Valley"
20. Indigo Girls - "Get Out The Map"

I have some commentary on several of the songs... feel free to read below, but feel just as free not to.

There is a spring mix. I'm not totally sure why. Mainly, I just kinda got really, really tired and started free-associating through my music library.

It's very weird, compared to my other mixes. I was sort of half-challenging myself not to pick the "obvious" songs, which has resulted in a much less poppy mix than last year's... in fact, there's only one or two songs on here that I would readily call "pop."

I would love to give you a copy. Yes, you. Just let me know.

EDIT: Track 3 has been changed

1. Yale Alley Cats - "Cloudburst"
2. Altan - "Molly Na Gcuach Ní Chuillenaín
3. University of Rochester Vocal Point - "Still In Love"
4. Jimmy Buffett - "On A Slow Boat To China"
5. Norah Jones - "Cold Cold Heart"
6. Alvin Youngblood Hart - "Here Am I, Oh Lord, Send Me"
7. The Shins - "Girl Inform Me"
8. Eddie Vedder - "Long Road"
9. Jonathan Coulton - "When You Go"
10. Dispatch - "Bang Bang"
11. Guster - "Happy Frappy"
12. Paul Simon - "That Was Your Mother"
13. The Harvard Din & Tonics - "Glowworm"
14. Better Than Ezra - "Lifetime"
15. The Jayhawks - "Save It For A Rainy Day"
16. Dordan - "Cóilín Phádraic Shéamais"
17. Sweet Honey in the Rock - "Wodaabe Nights"
18. Indigo Girls - "Welcome Me"
19. Dar Williams - "The World's Not Falling Apart"

I'm actually really happy with this. I like all the songs individually, and they all have the general right "mood" to me, but I also managed to arrange them so that there's a definite, noticeable progression of mood throughout the mix. If you've got an aesthetic sense similar to mine, then you might also be able to hear how this mix moves from early winter, still mixed about with fall, through deep winter, and finally into the late snows that hint of spring.

Or, maybe I'm just tired. But either way, I'm very satisfied with how this one came out. As usual, let me know if you want a copy. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] lowellboyslash and [livejournal.com profile] soybean1734, I know I still owe you both a copy of the mashup mix. I'll fix you both up a package and send you that one and this ASAP, now that I'm home, so you'll get it by the time you get back to school, kay? Sorry for the delay.

Without further ado, then:

1. "Come To Jesus" - Mindy Smith
2. "Mummers' Dance" - USC Sirens
3. "House Carpenter" - Nickel Creek
4. "The Lone Wolf" - Kathleen Edwards
5. "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" - Bruce Cockburn
6. "Song For Sonny Liston" - Mark Knopfler
7. "Texarkana" - R.E.M.
8. "Getting Even" - Guster

It being spring, I have made a Spring Mix.

I have no doubt that [livejournal.com profile] lowellboyslash has done so, also, nor am I too proud to admit to stealing the idea from her. However, when a random song jumps out of your playlist, grabs your brain by the lapels and screams "SPRING" in its ear, you have to listen. And then build a mix around it.

I suspect, of course, that not only will our two mixes not share a single song, they will be remarkably different in tone and mood.

Anyway, do let me know if you'd like a copy. I think it's pretty good, and hey, you can ask her for a copy of hers too, and do an ethnographic comparison!

The mix:

1. "Bitter Root" - Indigo Girls
2. "Flying Horses" - Dispatch
3. "Window" - Guster
4. "Beautiful Thing" - Sister Hazel
5. "School Boy Heart" - Jimmy Buffett
6. "Southern Cross" - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
7. "New Life" - Depeche Mode
8. "Come Dancing" - The Kinks
9. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" - The Beach Boys
10. "Falling For The First Time" - Barenaked Ladies
11. "Concert Duo Movement 4" - Edgar Meyer, Joshua Bell, Sam Bush & Mike Marshall
12. "Proof" - Paul Simon
13. "Symbol In My Driveway" - Jack Johnson
14. "The Rising" - Bruce Springsteen
15. "Little Man Big Man" - Toad The Wet Sprocket
16. "Instant Pleasure" - Rufus Wainwright
17. "Delerium" - Euphoria
18. "Morphee" - Moxy Fruvous
19. "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" - Princeton Roaring 20

Inspired by K's mix (and, I choose to believe, with her blessing), I have assembled

Cover Mix: The Unnecessary Sequel
not necessarily in order yet )

Yes, I am a shameless copycat, but at least I also bring good and interesting music. Copies can be made and distributed.
